TOPIC: “Test coverage myth busted”
In this talk, I will use experience from real projects to talk about test coverage. I’ll explain why it’s important to know the magic number 42 - and why we misunderstand it. Then, we will look at test-to-code mapping. I will show real tools and highlight ideas that will help QA engineers to succeed in their testing efforts.
Olga Kovbasenko, EPAM Senior Software Test Automation Engineer
Olga started her path in QA five and a half years ago, mostly through self-study. Then, after EPAM training, she interviewed for a project and has now worked at EPAM for over four years. Currently in the position of Senior software engineer (JavaScript), previously - Junior FullStack Developer for six months at Brainmedia. Olga has a master’s degree in Transportation and Automobile Transport Management from NTU, Kyiv. Frameworks and tools used or worked with: Protractor + pure Node.js for automation, Teamcity as CI tool, TFS as tool for deployment pipeline.
Natalia Sin, EPAM Lead Software Test Automation Engineer
Natalia has been working in automation testing for about seven years, progressing from Junior to Lead Engineer with EPAM and undergoing the long path from “what? Automation testing?? What’s that? does anybody know how to do it?” to “Hm... Our test run takes 1.5 min and 30 seconds of that is just package installation – how can we improve it?” Her current focus is automation testing in JavaScript with Protractor and NodeJS. Natalia's credo is “Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it”(c)

Let’s walk through a case where automation testing went from being just an instrument for reducing manual regression to an alarm system that helps the team to prevent upcoming issues. We will also look at the team owning product quality. We really hope that this case study will motivate others to review their vision, approaches and goals for automated testing on their projects.
